Data Science Manager

Data Science Lead, National Policing & Justice, AWS/Qliksense

Overseeing the data science and visualisation workstreams through solution design, development, deployment and scaling of two production use cases on an agile project. This included a focus on automation, responsible AI and long-term relationship management, with senior clients across multiple organisations. Overseeing 4 data scientists and 3 visualisation developers, I played a key part in reviewing, troubleshooting and guiding ongoing development in SQL, Python, QlikSense and AWS as well as facilitating personal development.

Our data pipeline and dashboard reduced insight compilation time from 200+ hours (manual) to <30 min, whilst our NLP approach flagged 10x more target records per week than laborious manual screening process.

Project Lead & Product Owner, Telecoms, GCP/Tableau

Leading a cross-functional team of 8 through discovery, data engineering and front-end build of a C-suite KPI dashboard. Navigated through scope uncertainty and a complex stakeholder landscape, and led the reconciliation of numerous legacy systems and divergent calculation approaches into a single, scalable data suite.

Our solution reduced manual weekly workload from 23 hours across 50+ individuals to <5 min for one individual, and sold a further piece of work scaling out Europe-wide.

Data Scientist, Pro Bono, GCP/Looker

Project trialling detection of thawslumps in satellite images using convolutional neural networks (GCP).

Lead, global expert groups initiative : setting up global domain expert groups for thought leadership and research, building infrastructure, establishing a BAU support team and process, and generating awareness.

Senior Data Scientist

NLP Transaction categorisation, AWS

Built prototype supervised multi-class classification model and inference pipeline to ensure accurate categorisation of open banking transactions, using sentence transformers. Created ground truth labelled set using combination of unsupervised clustering and manual labelling techniques. Designed with multi-language scale out in mind.

Left this role to take a career break. Enjoyed technical aspects of this role, but did not feel that all of my skillset would be put to use – particularly business-facing communication, visual analytics, and cross-functional collaboration.

Data Visualisation Consultant

Data Visualisation Lead & Data Scientist, Policing & Justice, AWS / QlikSense

On a cross-functional team productionising predictive, network and NLP approaches alongside front-end operational tools. Included a focus on ML at scale using AWS Cloud, ethics reviews, and solution architecture to create a multi-tenant front-end platform. I also led the design and development of a data science exploratory proof of concept use case. Received very positive feedback following presentations to senior individuals such as Minister of Policing, Chief Inspector of HMICFRS, and Caroline Haughey OBE KC.

This project followed an initial proof of concept stage during which I designed and built an interactive network dashboard (d3.js QlikSense plugin) which enabled a far more intuitive end user experience for intelligence analysts and secured a longer term relationship.

Data Visualisation Developer, Retail, Alteryx/Tableau and PowerBI

Using flat CSV extracts, designed and built comprehensive data cleansing and wrangling pipeline in Alteryx. Created initial Tableau proof of concept enabling planning of stock levels across different inventory categories, based on warehouse capacity, store type, and existing sales and stock dimension data.

Subsequently migrated both data prep pipeline and dashboard to Power BI and scaled to enable simulation of new shop types based on customer intent, product categories and capacity.

Data Visualisation Developer, HR internal dashboard, Power BI/SQL

As single-person team, worked with stakeholders across four key HR areas to gather requirements, design a data model and build a dashboard to replace manual weekly reporting mechanism. Trained end users to refresh and interrogate.
